Our animals: Meet the Team
Flecha.jpg

Flecha

Flecha (Arrow) was 3 years old when rescued by us in October 2012 from neglect and malnutrition. He was closed in a small corral with no food and in a terrible condition. He recovered well helped by his fantastic attitude and is now the leader of the herd. He is clever, kind, expressive, friendly and also our first rescue case in a serious life threatening condition.

Brave was rescued in January 2017 alongside Azar. He was only 2 years old and had been in the government dog pound for a long time, after being taken in from terrible conditions. He is intelligent, friendly, brave and lively.

Flapjack

Flapjack is the son of Joey and Sabba, who turned out to be pregnant when we rescued her. He was born on the 18th Feb 2019. We hope this family can stay together for the rest of their lives along with the rest of the herd.

Lavender.jpg

Lavender

The first donkey we ever rescued who arrived in autumn of 2020. Severely mistreated and abused she arrived with a lot of fear towards humans but is slowly learning to trust and open up and we are learning a lot about donkeys.

Sol_edited.jpg

Sol

Sol was bought by dealers, an unwanted pony who had learned to be defensive due to aggressive handling. She is young and is now learning to trust and relax in her new home.

Luno_edited.jpg

Luno

Luno was subject to one of the worst cases of abuse that we have seen. Thanks to the heroic efforts from his sponsor he found his way here in June 2020. He has old injuries and cannot be touched or handled. He lives with his new companion Alba in our fields and now enjoys a life of peace and nature.

Alba.jpg

Alba

Alba was a breeding mare who was discarded. She shows signs of having been very badly treated but now lives on the mountain with the rest of the big herd where she can be a horse again and live in peace. She is a pure breed Andalusian and is around 18 years old, she has been with us since summer 2019.

Gaia.jpg

Gaia

Gaia was rescued in June 2021 when her farmer owner tried to get rid of her because she was lame and of no use to him. Luckily she was turned down by the slaughter house due to her documents which is why he then called us. She is older with arthritis in one front leg but lives happily and is adapting very well to her new home and herd.

Oliver.jpg

Oliver

Oliver was rescued as a 5 month old foal having been abruptly separated from his mother. Unwanted because he was born small and weak with a slight deformation in a hind leg he was destined for the slaughter house. He is sweet and gentle and now in good health and adapting well to his new home despite the trauma and sadness he carries.

Joey & Sabba2.jpg

Joey & Sabba

These two were captured from the mountain as foals by the local council and having no owner would normally be sent to auction where they usually go straight to slaughter. A kind mayor found a way to bring them to us but in a very poor state. They are incredibly close and now learning to trust people by living a safe and quiet life here with us. Sabba gave birth to a surprise foal (Flapjack) who she had been carrying when rescued in February 2019 and we think the father is Joey, now castrated.

Ireland.jpg

Ireland

We bought Ireland in 2012 from a local dealer to remove her from poor conditions in which she lived. She is a lovely little mare who was adopted in November 2016 but is back with us now. She will spend the rest of her life here with her herd now.

Coffee.jpg

Coffee
